AlloyTech, Inc.

AlloyTech is providing electronic marketing and information services to the metals industry. Suppliers Online Marketplace, is an advertising site where companys can provide their customers free access to a diversity of metals information. The AlloyTech Supplier and Material Property Database, ASD 2.0, details the production availability and standard inventory of metals suppliers in North America. It gives access to industry terminology, specifications, tradenames, properties, applications, fabrication data, etc. ASD 2.0 is available on 3.5" floppy, CD-ROM and for Windows. It includes many different steels and other metals, for example; aluminium, carbon and alloy steels, cast irons, copper alloys, electrical steel, magnesium alloys, metal matrix composites, stainless steels, and titanium.

COPPERDATA

This is a collection of physical and mechanical property data for approximately 160 wrought copper alloys and 100 cast U.S. copper alloys. Numeric data are available for mechanical, electrical, thermal, and other physical properties. The source for the database is the CDA Standards Handbook, published by the Copper Development Association.

High Temperature Materials Databank (HTM-DB)

A computer-based system for data on the mechanical and physical properties of engineering alloys that are mostly used in high temperature technology. The HTM-DB also covers time-independent and elevated temperature materials application. The database structure is oriented to international materials standards and recommendations. Its emphasis is on data from standardised tests and on evaluation methods which are well established and widely accepted. The evaluation program library which is linked to the DB contains material models, constitutive equations as well as simple data splines. The programs operate under Microsoft Excel for Windows. The HTM-DB is available as PC or client/server versions with and without connection to the server computer at Petten. In the latter case the data is administrated in the PC or the server of the customer. The Petten Server stores all data entered by different customers and supports on-line data transfer to the replication PC or server of the customer. These platforms also have the advantages of : 1. central data storage which is important for international projects. 2. data quality check by material and database experts. Installation of the HTM-DB supplied software may make use of the Internet ftp-protocol for file transfer. As an alternative, copies are available on magnetic media. The scientific and technical responsibilities for the HTM-DB and its administration reside at the Joint Research Centre in Petten (Netherlands). The JRC is independant and works for the major objectives of the European Union.

HYDROGEN DATA

is a factual and numerical file, covering hydrogen material interactions (ferrous and nonferrous metals/alloys) and compared properties of materials with and without hydrogen. Each record gathers all the information concerning a test involving hydrogen, providing access to results in standard units. Records are in English if the original paper is in English, and in French in other cases. Material names and Index Terms are always in both English and French. The time span is from 1980 to present with file update every two months. HYDROGEN DATA is produced by Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie, Laboratoire de Recherche en Documentation, Paris. The file can be accessed online via ESA-IRS.

Eastern Alloys

manufactures zinc alloys using state-of-the-art processing technology. The Zinc Alloy Guide is to help designers and material specifiers to better understand the capabilities of zinc casting alloys for product applications. It describes advantages and accounts for properties and specifications. It is available on the web. The EA Literature Library holds extensive technical information about zinz and zinz alloys that can be ordered online. The International Zinc Association publishes the "Pocket Guide to World Zinc" online, in collaboration with the International Lead and Zinc Study Group. It contains principal facts about properties and applications as well as production- and trading info, among other things. This bibliographic resource is provided through Eastern Alloys. An electronic zinc reference guide, ILZRO.EXE is also provided. This is a graphical, MS-DOS based application that documents the mechanical and physical properties of zinc die-casting alloys, with bar charts comparing zinc properties with aluminium, magnesium and plastics. For this and the above Alloy Guide see online brochures.

IMA Materialforschung und Anwendungstechnik GmbH

Physical and technological data, characteristics. Semi-finished products from plastics. Information on varieties and manufacturers of semi-finished products on the german market. Materials recycling.

METALCREEP

This database contains design data on creep and rupture stress of aluminium and magnesium alloys and steels. It also contains supporting high temperature tensile properties over a varying range of operating temperatures. The source is the summary tables of ASTM Data Series Publications, originally produced by the Materials Property Council.

The Metals DataFile, produced by Materials Information in association with ASM and the Institute of Metals (copyrights now owned by Cambridge Scientific Abstracts), provides numeric data on ferrous and nonferrous alloys. Sources of the data are literature citations from engineering- and materials science journals, handbooks and data sheets. Bibliographic references, as well as references to the METADEX File are included. The database covers the following subjects: mechanical and physical properties, composition, designation information, applications, specifications, engineering and materials science, chemistry and chemical engineering. The file was last updated 1993 and will not be updated again. As user aids there are; Online Helps (HELP DIRECTORY lists all help messages available), the NUMERIGUIDE, the STNGUIDE. Chemical Abstracts Service has worked as database supplier. It is distributed by and can be accessed online via STN.

SMA-SELECT

The Royal Institute of Technology, Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering, Stockholm. This is a property database for shape memory alloys. At present the database contains information on composition, process metallurgy, thermomechanical treatments, testing, transformation behaviour, properties, applications and literature references. The project aims at providing scientists and engineering designers with reliable, systematic and extensive information in a portable manner. Efforts on such a complex database as this for SMAs by a single institue are certainly limited and international corporations are strongly needed to speed up the development of the database and avoid duplicated work. The institute would like to exchange information on SMAs with institutions or companies who are involved in SMA activities and have interest in participating in the development of the database.

Special Melted Products, Ltd

is part of the Sheffield Forgemasters Group of Companies. For a long time Special Melted Products has worked in partnership with industry to develop alloys with higher purity, greater integrity and enhanced performance. Their materials selection database is available as a self extracting executable file which can then be installed under Windows (3.1 or 95). It is aslo available on CD. closer description
